“So how much will each one of us get?” is the question that remained dominant in the group 4 discussion. The group, together with four others, was meeting for the #googleonlinedigitalchallenge. The Google online digital challenge is a campaign by Google to find solutions to challenges as deemed relevant by the competitors. Students from various universities compete in groups of four to six with a guidance of a professor as their tutor. 2015 will be the second time Uganda participates in the challenge. The first participation was last year in 2014. The challenge will take place in March 2015.
All this took place at the first digital marketing training organized by the Makerere Google Students Community. While speaking to the trainees, the Makerere University Google Ambassadors Power Mukisa and Victoria Mbabazi talked about the benefits of digital marketing with the current trends of advertisement.
Power Mukisa opened the training by giving a background of digital marketing and how it has improved with time. It has been a long time since 1992 when the internet came on board. And since then, a number of improvements have taken place with the advancement of technology. It is the work of the many that came before us that we are enjoying internet today.
The trainees were introduced to Google Partners, a platform that unites all the Google digital marketers across the globe. The platform also links the user to My Client Centre, a portal that enables the marketer to run more than one campaign online. However the user must be conversant with knowledge on ad words and Google analytics.
As usual with Google events, there is a lot of experience sharing and learning from what tech savvies are doing. One of them is Pascal Ojijo from allpublicspeakers.com. Pascal has several other startups that he runs along with allpublicspeakers.com . His company provides direct contact between a professional service provider and a client.
Roy Kusemererwa from Angel hub located at Ham Towers also shared his story. Angel Hub offers a pace to developers and also promotes their products. One of the products that they are currently promoting is an app called ViOffice. Vi is a short form of virtual. In their virtual office, they offer a number of services including; viCom, viCorp, viPlus and Viazon Addon. ViOffice can be got on google play or on vioffices.com.
As the training came to the end, the trainees met briefly in their groups and strategies laid for the adword trainings in January next. Below is the link to the photos, https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/108541405542332575835/albums/6094826351852812913
